Alan's nomination story

I would like to nominate my father for the honour of being a torchbearer. A founder member of Altrincham Athletic Club in 1961, he has given 50 years of service to them. Not only has he competed for much of this time but has also served as secretary, chairman, president and coach. In recent years he has devoted many hours a week helping to maintain the track and always attends training sessions as a helper. From humble beginnings the club has grown in strength producing many successful athletes including two olympic athletes. This year it celebrated its 50th birthday in the same month my father became 80. He has a true passion for sport and never tires of giving his time and energy to support the athletes at the club. With this devotion in mind I feel my father truly deserves the opportunity of a lifetime that he would relish and give joy to the many people he has helped over the years at Altrincham Athletic Club. He is a very popular figure at the club with all age groups and I know it would give many people pleasure to see him carrying the olympic torch. He has been a tireless worker in the field of athletics and at 80 shows no signs of slowing down. He is a remarkable man.
