Sheriff's nomination story

Ahmed is a coach of the under 16s team at Greenhouse Bethwin FC. The community club is between Peckham's big housing estates and many of the young people have issues in their home, school and personal life. He works for Connections full-time helping young people who are out of work then devotes his evenings and weekends to the young people at Bethwin FC. He is an awesome coach and never misses a session, he's the first one there and last to leave and is always willing to go out of his way to help the club and the young players. He has a difficult task coaching the Under 16s as they are more of a handful and can sometimes have more 'attitude' than the other age groups but he has a fantastic rapour with them and he is more of a friend than just a coach. There was one boy who was about to be thrown out of his school for poor behaviour and absence but Ahmed invited his headmaster down to a training session so he could see how great he was on the pitch and convinced his head to give him another chance. At Bethwin FC the young people are taught respect and friendship. There are no trials and players are selected for the team based on their commitment, displayed through their attendance, punctuality, attitude and effort. Anyone can play, regardless of their ability. This year the club is celebrating 10 years and has grown to over 520 players and has bred professional football stars. Many of Ahmed's players will go on to play semi or professional football in the future.
