Alfred Fajardo

Since the gang related murder of one his players, coach and club leader Alf has dedicated his life to turning Shiners FC (based in Wapping) into a club which sets a brilliant example as to how community clubs can help transform young people's lives. From only a handful of players 2 years ago the club now has over 80 players, many at risk from local gangs. Alf is a inspirational leader who sets high standards of respect and discipline and takes the time to talk to teachers and parents so that sport is directly linked to educational attainment and good behaviour on the streets. Alf has arranged for the club to support, as shirt sponsor, a local homeless charity so the kids relate to others beyond their own peer group. He is passionate about bringing different ethnic groups together and about including those with disabilities whom other football clubs have turned away.
