The ODA is transforming former industrial land, much of it contaminated through years of industrial neglect, to create a total of over 100 hectares of parklands that will provide a colourful setting and festival atmosphere for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

The cable net is formed between the outer white steel roof truss and an inner tension ring 30m above the field of play. Over 900 tonnes of scaffolding and over a kilometre of support platforms were used to assembled over 12,000m of cables and the walkways. It took four weeks and 56 hydraulic jacks to lift the 450-tonne structure into place.

New aerial images released by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) today show the progress made in the construction of a world-class White Water Canoe Centre in Broxbourne for the London 2012 Games. The foundations of the venue have already been completed on schedule.

Thursday 3rd December marks exactly 1,000 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. To mark this, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has unveiled the Paralympic pictograms, the visual representations of each of the 20 Paralympic sports and disciplines. In 2012 itself, the Paralympic pictograms will have a “wayfinding” role, helping spectators find venues at Games-time as well as helping to transform London from an Olympic city to a Paralympic city. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has submitted its planning application for the use of Greenwich Park to host the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events and Olympic Modern Pentathlon Events in 2012.
