A Trailblazing opportunity with London 2012

A Trailblazing opportunity with London 2012

15 Jun 2009
The London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today starts the search for a further sixteen volunteers to join Trailblazers, the pre-Games volunteer programme based at the London 2012 offices in Canary Wharf.
The successful recruits to Trailblazers will work for one day a week across the teams at LOCOG. There are a broad range of roles for people to contribute to the work of the Marketing, Communications, Transport, Venues, Health, Legal, and Human Resource departments. Roles range from an Olympic Park Tour Volunteer to a Legal Team Assistant Volunteer.

Paul Deighton, CEO of LOCOG said: “Volunteering is an important part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Trailblazer scheme provides people with an interest in working with us on a volunteer basis a way to get involved now, well before the big events themselves and to bring their experience to bear in an office environment.”

Trailblazers will need experience relevant to the roles advertised together with good communication skills, flexibility, commitment and a friendly can-do attitude.

Phase two of the Trailblazer scheme builds on the successful pioneer programme that ran from January to April 2009 which saw twenty one Trailblazers, including two volunteers recruited through Personal Best, become key members of the LOCOG team.

To find out more about the scheme, the volunteer roles, how to apply and the assessment process, prospective candidates should go to www.london2012.com/trailblazers

The closing date for applications varies from role to role.

Notes to editors

1. Personal Best is an exciting pre-employment programme designed to harness the unique motivating force of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to engage workless and socially excluded people with learning and opportunities in the labour market, lift their aspirations and create new life or career choices.

The Programme uses the prospect of becoming a Games Time Volunteer in 2012 as an inspiration to attract eligible people to undertake a Level 1 qualification, experience some volunteering and ultimately to move into employment or further training.

Those that take part in the Programme will receive guidance in training for a qualification and support in their volunteering experience, all of which help as 'stepping stones' toward a new work opportunity or further training. Ultimately, the goal of the Programme is to give people new skills and employment opportunities and raise self esteem and self confidence. Find out more at www.lda.gov.uk/personalbest

2. The London 2012 Games-time volunteer programme will launch in 2010. Anyone interested in volunteering at Games-time can find out more and register their interest at www.london2012.com/volunteering
