A £100m upgrade has begun to treble the capacity of Stratford Regional Station.
Stratford Regional Station will be one of the main gateways for spectators to get to the sporting action and cultural excitement in the Olympic Park. During the Games, eight rail lines will service the station, making it a major public transport interchange.
During the Games around 60 per cent of all spectators travelling by rail and around 45 per cent of all spectators visiting the Games will arrive and depart through this station.
We are making more than £100m of improvements to the station to treble its capacity and make it more accessible. These enhancements will allow thousands of spectators to pass through the station each morning during the Games and help the station cater for increased passenger demand in the future.
Today, about 37,000 passengers pass through Stratford in the three hour morning peak period. This number is expected to rise to 55,000 in 2012, and by 2016 about 83,000 passengers are expected to use the station in the morning peak.
During the Games around 118,000 passengers are expected to use the station during morning peak periods.
