The International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre (IBC/MPC) Complex is a 24-hour media hub for around 20,000 broadcasters, photographers and journalists who are bringing the Games to an estimated four billion people worldwide.

The design and build

The IBC/MPC Complex is located in the north-west corner of the Olympic Park. Both the IBC and the MPC have been designed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate a range of potential tenants and uses after the Games.

The IBC has around 52,000 square metres of studio space for broadcasters and 8,000 sq m of offices. It has the flexibility to be separated into multiple units after the Games.

To cater for the international media working around the clock, the Complex also has a temporary Catering Village with an 800-capacity press conference room, a 4,000-seat restaurant and a 200m-long High Street running between the MPC and IBC with outlets such as banks, newsagents, travel agents and a post office. 

The MPC includes 29,000sq m of office space with four storeys of workspace for journalists and photographers during the Games. It has an innovative design that enables the building to be adapted after the Games for either a single tenant in the whole building or on each floor, or multiple tenants on each floor.

Construction on the MPC and IBC began in April 2009, and they were both completed in summer 2011.

The MPC was officially opened on 27 June 2012, marking exactly one month to go until the Games.

After the Games

After the Games, the facilities will offer more than 80,000sq m of business space, with the potential to generate thousands of new jobs. The London Development Agency  led the legacy planning for the Olympic Park site, and this work has been taken forward by the new London Legacy Development Corporation, which announced a shortlist of potential long-term tenants for the buildings in January 2012London Legacy Development Corporation, which announced a shortlist of potential long-term tenants for the buildings in January 2012.
