  • Highlights from the 24-hour Paralympic Torch Relay
    Four National Flames unite in Stoke Mandeville, spiritual home of the Paralympic Games, before it sets off on a 24-hour Relay to the Olympic Stadium. The Flame travels 92 miles by a total of 116 teams, each made up of five inspirational Torchbearers. On its journey, the Paralympic Flame visits Aylesbury, Tring, Watford and London landmarks including Neasden Temple, Brent Europe’s first traditional Hindu temple, London Zoo, Lord's Cricket Ground, Westminster Abbey and Tower Bridge.
  • Celebration cauldron lit in Wales
    A day before the Paralympic Torch Relay beigns its 24 hour journey to the Olympic Stadium, the Welsh Flame, created on 22 August, was used to light a ceremonial cauldron outside City Hall, Cardiff, marking a day of celebration. The Flame was taken on several community visits, including two wards at Rockwood Hospital, Cardiff before joining a lantern procession and Flame Festival in Roald Dahl Plass at the end of the day.
  • Celebration cauldron lit in Scotland
    Sunday 26 August saw the focus of the Paralympic Torch Relay celebrations move to Scotland as the Scottish Flame, created at the summit of Ben Nevis was used to light a cauldron at The Mound, Edinburgh. The Flame made several community stops, including a visit to Edinburgh Sick Children’s Hospital, and a star turn at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before taking part in a spectacular lantern procession and Flame Festival at Meadowbank Sports Centre.
  • Celebration cauldron lit in Northern Ireland
    A ceremonical cauldron was lit at outside the Stormont Buildings, Northern Ireland, to mark a day of Paralympic celebration as part of the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay. Following a day spent visiting communities, and being the focus of celebration events, the day of celebration culminated with a a spectacular lantern procession and Flame Festival at City Hall, Belfast.
  • Celebration cauldron lit in London
    Ahead of the start of the Paralympic Games on 29 August, a celebration cauldron has been lit in Trafalgar Square using the English National Flame created by Scouts at Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak. The Flame visited several London landmarks over the course of the day, including the Royal Opera House and the Houses of Parliament.

    With one week to go to the Paralympic Games, groups of Scouts and mountaineers scale the four highest peaks of the UK to light four National Flames that will eventually be combined to create the Paralympic Flame.
