Serena's nomination story

"All I can say it's never too late to achieve your dream. I was asked to represent the DeafGB Team for the DeafOlympics. I was in Taiwan for 3 weeks (2 weeks to acclimatise) to get used to the heat and humidity. On the day of the race I woke at 3am, had breakfast and left at 4.30a.m. I was taken to the destination, about 45 mins journey, by police escort. Throughout the race it got hotter and the humidity was quite high, the safety pins holding my number were burning into my chest. I had three wishes in my head whilst I was running the marathon, 1 keep running, 2 get over that Finish Line, 3 Win a Medal! The whole trip, Ceremony, people, International Sign Language and standing on the Podium with an Olympic medal around my neck is amazing; I still can't believe my dream came true."
