"From the age of 14, I have been involved with helping the children of Belarus in the regions affected by the Chernobyl Disaster. My interests grew until I founded the Charity `Bridges to Belarus` which now supports over 800 children, their families and community. My career in Paediatrics is underpinned by a love of children and a drive to improve the quality of their lives. I use a wheelchair so have an insight into disability and the issues affecting children who use wheelchairs. I use this advantage to try to improve healthcare and the quality of their lives. I volunteer for a sports club for children who use wheelchairs. I have met some amazing people and never fail to be inspired by the children and their families. I also meet some of these children through the local children`s Hospice where I have been a volunteer for over 10 years."
