Matthew's nomination story

"As a passionate Chelsea fan it is an honour to be able nominate Matt to carry the Paralympic Torch. His work with young disabled children has given them the confidence to join a football team and become committed members of Chelsea's disability football sides. Players are encouraged to work together and help one another achieve their ambitions. Despite undergoing several, life-changing operations, including a heart bypass, Matt still displays high spirits and enthusiasm both on and off the pitch. Combine that attitude with extreme determination and Matt has a huge desire to make a difference in the world of disability football. After years of separate education, Matt surpassed all expectations to not only run the Chelsea Community Juniors Disability section and the Under 16s Cerebral Palsy Centre of Excellence but also work full-time within the Chelsea Foundation's community initiatives."
