"Poppa Guttmann Celebration team: This team consists of 2 paraplegics and 2 able bodied volunteers, who have worked for 3 years now towards the project of commisioning a statue to the neurosurgeon, Sir Ludwig Guttmann, who brought about the Paralympic Games back in 1948 through his pioneering vision for injured patients at Stoke Mandeville Hospital which he founded. Mike should be strongly considered for all his tireless work for this charity which he, and Philip set up. Mike has also done a great deal of local community work and is an inspiration to many through his ovecoming his injuries, as T3 paraplegic. He made a round the world trip with 2 blind friends and they jointly raised £750,000 for spinal injury and blind charities."
