John's nomination story

"I have been involved with charity work for many years. I joined 1st Uxbridge Scout Group around 29 years ago and for the past 25 years I have been the Group Scout Leader getting to know thousands of children from the age of 6 up developing into responsible, happy adults. My experience with youth activities has also been in the Rotary Club of Uxbridge where I have held the position of President and have been the Chairman of Youth Services for many years. We were the first in the District to start an Interact club for the 12 to 18 age group. We raise around £25000 per year which is spent on local and overseas charity work. I am a trustee of Uxbridge United Welfare Trusts where my responsibilities include managing the property supplying Alms housing for 22 people. We also provide grants and assistance to local people."
