Irene's nomination story

"I am a 24/7 wheelchair user. I was diagnosed with MS in June 1985. I have tried to live my life as usual. I moved to Bracknell from Norfolk in 1994 to be near my sister. I lived in a bedsit for 4 years and as I deteriorated the council gave me a disabled bungalow and this gave me my independence back and a new lease of life so I joined the Red Diamond Sports Club in 1994. I took part in disabled games, won medals and enjoyed every moment. In Sept 2000 I had to give up the games but still go swimming regularly so have been able to do several sponsored swims to raise money for the MS Society and Red Diamonds. This also helps to keep up my upper body strength so that I can continue to live as usefully as possible."
