"A few months ago I was given the task of organising the Colleague Challenge events for the entire division without any clue of what these sports were and how they were played. After reading the supplied packs I was a little closer to understanding how they work and how difficult it must be for these Paralympians to participate. Nonetheless, I arranged for these sports to be played in an external venue where the set-up was in the form of interdepartmental competitions. This is where 12 teams competed against one another to win the overall tournament in both Blind Football and Sitting Volleyball. The sports generated about 5-6 hours of games played, with over 150 people taking part and many more watching. We also managed to get the support of senior leadership teams of whom some had pledged their time within their department teams. The day was not just about competing to win but hopefully made people aware of the Paralympics and highlighted the different types of sports being played, because as we know it would be great for our Paralympians if we all show them the same support that we would do for the Olympics."
