"I have spent all my working life supporting young people to reach their full potential. Four years ago I lost my sight and am now registered blind. Through this challenging period I took great strength from continuing to work with young people, a group which seemed to accept my disability for more than others did. In particular I work with a large youth brass band and conduct them in twice weekly rehearsals and over 40 concerts a year. Although having to adapt my approach to music, I have taken great strength from leading these talented musicians. I would consider myself to be a role model demonstrating that disability is not a barrier to achieving ones goals, all we ask for is perhaps a different approach."
