"Gillian has been a key driving force in the creation of the registered charity Downright Special. The charity assists families and professionals in the care of children with Down syndrome. On giving birth to a daughter with Down syndrome, Gillian and her husband, Chris quickly realised that there was limited support readily available to them. Gillian established herself a network of parents in similar circumstances and quickly realised the benefit the mutual support this group was providing. With Gillian`s support and contribution, this quickly developed into an organised group giving emotional, practical and educational support to other families and professionals working with children with Down syndrome. She has clearly applied her personal skills and experience for the benefit of others. In 2007 the group became a registered charity. Gillian continues her contribution as Chair of Downright Special and spends most evenings, every Friday and weekends supporting the charity"
