"Eleni is a wheelchair user who was born paralysed below the chest. She won a Millennium Award at the age of 14 and researched the experience of disabled pupils that attended mainstream school. She published an action plan for schools, selling 3,500 copies of the report ""Are We Nearly There Yet?"" The report demonstrated that there was a long way to go before wheelchair users in the UK could get a good education. She campaigned to increase participation of young disabled people in sport and became a wheelchair racer with Manchester Kestrels. Eleni hoped to participate in the 2012 Paralympics but developed osteomyelitis and suffered five years of repeated operations and illness. Throughout this period she was unable to compete but gained a BTEC National Diploma in Sport Science and qualified as an athletics coach. She coaches young disabled athletes and has been especially successful in recruiting girls into wheelchair racing."
