Daphine's nomination story

"Until recently, I was a normal housewife & mum. I've always cared deeply and been moved by stories of deprivation but didn't think i could do anything to help.

Then I heard about The Trussell Trust food bank in Salisbury and visited it with a friend, this resulted in the the Hammersmith & Fulham food bank being born.

It was a challenge, I had been at home for so long and had never set anything up or managed people. Suddenly i was in meetings at Magistrates courts and council offices. Whilst terrified a lot of the time, i was inspired to persevere because I knew there were hungry people in our community. My hope is that one day no one will go to bed hungry in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. We have now provided enough food for over 14,000 meals regularly helping people who haven't eaten for days. We are making a real difference in people's lives."
