The German won the gold medal match over Wang Lijing of China in the women's -52kg category, on the same day her sister Carmen Brussig took gold in the -48kg category.

Ramona sealed a quick win by a choke hold in the first minute. She said: 'I knew this was my chance, I just pulled tighter and tighter.'

She said she and Carmen had not considered the possibility of both taking gold on the same day. She said: 'No way, we speculated with medals, yes, but two gold medals - never!'

Carmen said of her win: 'I knew in my first fight that today anything is possible. I have beaten the European champion and then the world champion... I am very happy now, all the pressure is gone. The gold medal is what I still missed in my collection.'

She said she and her sister 'do everything together', adding: 'We get up together, then we take a shower - which we actually don't do together - then we have breakfast together, check out how we feel, then we go to the competition hall.'

'Appearance-wise we are very alike, but inside we are totally different. I am more the shy one and Ramona is more outspoken,' she said.
