Review: Archery history forged

Paralympic records fell from the first day to the very last match in the London 2012 Paralympic Archery tournament - with Russia ending the competition on top of the medal table.

Russia's two gold medals, a silver and two bronzes included a clean sweep of all three medals in men's Individual Recurve - Standing that set them up for victory in the men's Team Recurve - Open.

The Italian archer Oscar de Pellegrin won gold in his sixth and final Games in the men's Individual Recurve - W1/W2, while Zahra Nemati made history by being the first Iranian female gold medallist at a Paralympic Games in the women's equivalent.

Nemati said: 'I'm congratulating myself for getting a gold. I want to thank everyone who has helped me, they gave me so much energy.

'The final is a difficult match but I got through it because I could hear the Iranian supporters cheering for me."

There was an all-British final in the women's Individual Compound - Open as Danielle Brown beat Mel Clarke to retain her title.

History was made again in the women's Team Recurve - Open, with Korea earning their first Paralympic team title. 

Ko Hee Sook said: 'In 2000, when I got a medal in the individual competition (W1/W2 bronze at the Sydney Paralympic Games), I was the only female archer (from Korea).

'A senior member of the Korean archery federation promised me that they would organise a female Archery team for future competitions. This win reminds me of that moment. I am so delighted to be here.'
