Players hope to boost Boccia

Players who took gold medals on the first day of Boccia action spoke of their hopes that new players would be inspired by their Paralympic Games achievements.

Dirceu Pinto and Eliseu dos Santos of Brazil won gold in the Mixed Pairs - BC4.

Pinto said: 'I am very, very happy to get this medal. I want to thank my family and all my supporters. 

'This isn't just a medal for me, but for my whole country and I hope it motivates people to get involved in Paralympic sport. Sport can change the lives of people with disabilities just as it has changed our lives.'

Thailand's players provided a masterclass as they won Mixed Team - BC1-2 gold.

Pattaya Tadtong said: 'I'm very happy because I got (individual) bronze in Athens... After I got bronze, a lot of people were interested in the sport and wanted to be like me.

'There'll be more people interested in it and will follow in my footsteps.'
