The opening game on 30 August sees Great Britain’s men face Beijing 2008 silver medallists Lithuania. In a tough group, the hosts will also take on Beijing 2008 bronze medallists Sweden on 1 September.

Reigning Paralympic champions China open their campaign on 30 August against Iran, the only team they suffered defeat to on their way to the 2008 gold medal.

The women’s event also gets underway on 30 August with hosts Great Britain taking on world champions China. In the second group, Beijing 2008 champions USA will open against Sweden.

The final group games take place on 4 September, with matches such as USA v Canada in the women’s tournament and Sweden v Finland in the men’s likely to be crucial in deciding final positions before the top two from each group then progress to the quarter-finals.

'The perfect venue'

The men’s and women’s Goalball tournaments will feature 12 and 10 teams respectively, with the groups announced in April. Matches will take place every day from 30 August until the two gold medal matches, both of which will take place on 7 September.

London 2012 Organising Committee Director of Sport Debbie Jevans said: 'Goalball has the potential to truly capture the public’s imagination this summer.

'Though not many people in the UK will be familiar with Goalball, the Copper Box is the perfect venue in which to showcase this highly competitive and fast-paced sport, and landmarks such as the competition schedule announcement only help build excitement.'
