'David Hockney: A Bigger Picture' will be on display from 21 January – 9 April 2012 and feature a large number of new paintings, many of which are of an ambitious scale and were created specifically for the Royal Academy’s galleries.
Inspired by the Yorkshire landscape, the recent works will be shown alongside related drawings and films.
Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival said: ‘We are delighted that this exceptional exhibition of landscapes by one of Britain’s greatest artists will be a highlight countdown event for the London 2012 Festival next year.
'For many of us, David Hockney remains a favourite artist and his constant experimentation with new media including photography, computer technology and film is a continual fascination.’
The London 2012 Festival will bring together artists from all over the world from 21 June – 9 September 2012 for the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad.
