During the London 2012 Olympic Games, Wimbledon, home of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will host the Olympic Tennis competition from Saturday 28 July – Sunday 5 August 2012. Up to 30,000 people will visit the venue each day to watch these competitions.

Installation of temporary venue infrastructure

In order to prepare Wimbledon for the Olympic competition, we are looking at utilising the majority of structures in place for the 2012 Championships. Some of these structures will be modified and put to a different use, for example we are looking at reconfiguring the tents to the south of the venue from hospitality areas to storage areas for security and search equipment.
We are also looking at installing some temporary structures and infrastructure, including press desks and additional scoreboard facilities, for several of the outside courts and two of the public scoreboards.

The installation works will take place from 10–20 July, with little construction taking place after this date up to when the Olympic Tennis event starts on 28 July.

We will work to ensure that any construction noise only takes place during the permitted times of 8am–6pm.

Venue security

In order to run a safe and secure event, we will need to implement the following security measures during the Games:  

Local travel information

• physical security systems installed such as fencing, lighting and CCTV
• the venue will be searched for any prohibited items, dangerous items, or explosive devices, and will be secured prior to the start of Games operations
• a secure perimeter will be maintained continuously during the Games, with perimeter security and patrols
• all persons, vehicles and material entering the venue will be screened for restricted and prohibited items

To help provide a safe and secure environment around the venue, keep traffic moving and prioritise parking for local people, London 2012 has been working with the London Boroughs of Merton and Wandsworth, and others to develop a temporary traffic management and parking plan.

The temporary parking controls for the Olympic Tennis will be in place from Saturday 28 July until Monday 6 August, and will be similar to those that operate during the Championships. Find out more about the Merton and Wandsworth access and parking plans.

The Olympic Route Network (ORN)

The Olympic Route Network (ORN) is made up of a number of roads linking all competition and other key venues to provide reliable journey times for the athletes, officials, media and others who make the Games happen.

The vast majority of the ORN will be open to general traffic but to keep traffic moving along the routes some temporary traffic changes will be necessary. Transport for London contacted residents and local businesses last year to invite comments on the ORN, and you can view the outcome of this and the details of the changes to the way the roads can be used on the Transport for London website.

After the Games

We will begin to remove all our temporary structures immediately after the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games. We anticipate the removal of all of the temporary construction aspects by 15 August and that the site will be cleared of all facilities by 20 August.
