Zimbabwe have been competing at the Paralympic Games since the country became independent in 1980, having previously competed as Rhodesia. They were absent from the Games in 1988 and 1992, returning in 1996 with a two-man team. The country's most successful year was 1980, when Zimbabweans won eight silver and four bronze medals (all but two were won by Sandra JAMES and Eileen ROBERTSON). Their first gold medal was won by Elliot MUJAJI in 2000 in the 100m and he retained his title in 2004.
