Timor-Leste (East Timor) first sent athletes to the Paralympic Games in 2000 in Sydney where they competed as Individual Paralympic Athletes because the country was not yet recognised as a sovereign state. Formally recognised in 2002, East Timor made their official Paralympic debut in 2008 in Beijing with Lily COSTA SILVA competing in the powerlifting.
