Peru made their Paralympic Games debut in 1972 in Heidelberg, where they had one athlete in swimming. They participated in the Games of 1976 but missed the next two decades before returning in 1996 with a team of three. They have an all-time medal count of eight (three gold, one silver, four bronze) with their first medals being won in 1976 by T. CHIAPO, who took gold in the women's table tennis singles and bronze in the javelin.
