Papua New Guinea first competed at the Paralympic Games in 1984, with a team of four in athletics. They did not participate in the next three Games, but returned in 2000 with two athletes in track and field and one in powerlifting. Their first medal was won by Francis KOMPAON who took silver in the 100m in 2008.
