Highlights

Mexico made their Paralympic Games debut in 1972 in Heidelberg, with a team of seven athletes competing in track and field, swimming, weightlifting and wheelchair fencing. They have won 252 Paralympic medals. In 1972 they won no medals, but in 1976 they collected 16 gold (15 in athletics, one swimming) along with 14 silver and nine bronze. Their most successful Paralympians are Josephina CORNEJO (eight gold in athletics) and Juana SOTO and Leticia TORRES, who won four gold in 1980 and 1988 respectively.
