Highlights
Guatemala made their debut at the 1976 Paralympic Games in Toronto, with a team of 11 athletes who competed in archery, dartchery, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting. They returned in 1984 with two swimmers and two weightlifters, and then one weightlifter competed in 1988. Sixteen years later in 2004 in Athens, Guatemala were represented by two in athletics. Visually impaired 5000m runner César LOPEZ was the sole Guatemalan athlete in 2008. Guatemala have won two Paralympic medals, both in the sport of weightlifting. JR de LEON won bronze in 1976 in Toronto and their only gold medal was won by Jose ROLANDO in 1988 in Seoul.
