Since 1988 in Seoul, Cyprus have been competing in the Paralympic Games. Their first medallist was in 2004, when swimmer Karolina PELENDRITOU won gold in the women's 100m breaststroke. The rest of the country's all-time medal count of five were won in Beijing in 2008 including PELENDRITOU defending her 2004 title and adding a bronze in the women's 200m individual medley, and Antonis ARESTI taking two silver medals in athletics (200m, 400m).
