Colombia made their Paralympic Games debut in 1976 in Toronto, with athletes participating in athletics, table tennis and wheelchair basketball. They have participated in every subsequent edition of the Paralympic Games, except 1984. Their all-time medal count is four medals – one gold, one silver and two bronze, with their first ever medals being won in 1980 by swimmer Pedro MEJIA who captured a gold in world record time (100m breaststroke) and a bronze (100m backstroke). Twenty-eight years later, in 2008, Elkin SERNA won silver in the men's marathon, and Moises FUENTES won a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke.
