Bulgaria made their Paralympics debut in Seoul in 1988 with three track athletes and one men's goalball team. They have won a total of 11 medals all-time, 10 of which came in athletics and the other in swimming in 1996 (Polina DZHUROVA's silver in the 100m backstroke). Their first-ever Paralympic gold came in 1988 when Gueorgui SAKELAROV won in the discus and the shot put. He went on to win the third of their four gold medals by successfully defending his shot put title in 1992.
