London 2012 was an inspirational and memorable Olympic and Paralympic Games where everyone is invited and involved with the celebrations – regardless of age, race, disability, sexuality, gender, gender identity or belief.
Right from the very beginning of our bid in 2003, London 2012 has been about what can be achieved through the inspiration and power of sport, using it as a catalyst for positive change and inspiration.
The UK has a strong link to the Paralympic Games. In 1948, Dr Ludwig Guttmann organised a wheelchair archery competition at Stoke Mandeville hospital for World War II soldiers with spinal cord injuries.
