Mike Lee, Director of Communications & Public Affairs of London 2012 and the interim London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), is to leave the organisation to explore new professional opportunities.
Mike, who joined the London 2012 bid team at the end of 2003, played a major role in the successful campaign to bring the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to London, working closely with Bid Chairman, Lord Coe, and CEO, Keith Mills.
Lord Coe said today:
"Mike has made a fantastic contribution to London 2012, particularly in positioning and communicating our plans to key audiences, including the media. I have enjoyed our time together and Mike thoroughly deserves his recent accolade as PR Professional of the Year. I wish him well in all that he plans to do in the future."
Keith Mills said:
"Winning on 6th July was a great team effort and Mike was a key member of the team. He has left a great legacy and the basis for a strong communications platform for the next seven years."
Mike Lee said:
"The London 2012 campaign has been a great experience. Wining on 6th July was the most wonderful feeling and professionally my proudest moment.
"I cannot speak highly enough of the team we have built at London 2012 and now at the LOCOG. The sense of purpose and shared commitment between the bid team and all our supporters and stakeholders remains very special. My thanks to everyone involved, most particularly to Seb Coe and Keith Mills, who have provided real leadership throughout this whole process."
Mike Lee added:
"New personal challenges now await but I know that the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 continue to be in the safest possible hands."
Mike will leave LOCOG on 30th November and Jackie Brock-Doyle, currently Head of Public Relations & Media, will take responsibility for the Director of Communications role starting 1st December.
