London 2012 leaders head to Singapore

With nine days to go to the announcement of the Host City for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, London's bid leaders are heading out to Singapore this evening.

"We go out to Singapore knowing that we have an excellent technical bid, that we have the UK behind us and that we are ready to deliver a great Games in the heart of this great city and country," said bid leader, Sebastian Coe.

"Our thanks go to the hundreds of people who have worked so diligently on the bid, from compiling the Candidate File, to securing planning permission for the Olympic Park, to ensuring the Evaluation Commission Visit went like clockwork.

"My thanks also go to the millions of people who have registered their support for the bid and continue to send letters of encouragement and support. This bid is stronger for all this support," added Coe.

The strong mix of existing facilities (over 60 per cent), with a state-of-the-art Olympic Park with much needed new sports facilities and new innovative temporary and relocatable venues lies at the centre of the bid.

"Our mission now is to make sure we deliver an outstanding presentation in Singapore on 6 July and that the International Olympic Committee members know why they should vote for London," said bid Chief Executive, Keith Mills.

"Our message is clear. We have an exceptional Games concept that has been designed in partnership with athletes, International Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees, a concept that also embraces the latest IOC thinking to deliver excellence without extravegance.

"We are ready to deliver a low risk Games. We have the funding, the planning permission and the land in place and we have a vision that will leave a legacy for sport, for the community and for the country. A vision that will transform lives and generate new interest in Olympism," added Mills.

The London 2012 bid leaders will be joined later this week by London 2012 ambassadors from the world of sport.

"London is the centre of the world for young people and has the power and voice to reach out to young people everywhere. This is our vision for a London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, a vision that we hope the IOC members can also share," he added.
