London 2012 ambassadors from the world of sport flew out on Sunday evening to join Sebastian Coe and the rest of the London 2012 team in Singapore. They took with them messages of support, from all around the UK.
The ambassadors carried the support of the country with them to Singapore, in the form of a dozen signed flags that travelled to London from all over the UK. The flags fly to Singapore as a symbol of the overwhelming public support that the Bid has enjoyed, with more than three million official supporters.
Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Colin Jackson and Shirley Robertson, who are part of the London delegation for the announcement of the Host City for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, took part in a photocall at Heathrow.
London's Bid for the 2012 Games has been designed for athletes by athletes, with the plans developed in partnership with athletes and sports federations right from the start.
Shirley Robertson said: "I have been delighted to be involved in London's Bid for the Games. It truly is an excellent technical Bid that will deliver the best possible experience for athletes. It is an honour to be flying to Singapore as part of the team."
Sebastian Coe, Chairman of London 2012, said: "The support and passion for the bid shown from all corners of the United Kingdom - from Dundee to Dorset, Belfast to Birmingham - has instilled a great sense of pride within the London 2012 team."
