The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is expecting to get a record number of bidders for a plant hire and builders merchant facility contract following a high turn out to the ODA’s Olympic Park Plant Hire and Builders Merchant Facility procurement Industry Day.
Nearly 150 people from nearly 100 companies attended the event, led by ODA Director of Construction Howard Shiplee. Other speakers at the event included Dave Peacop, ODA head of Logistics and Jon Wagstaff, the ODA’s Procurement Manager.
The purpose of the event was to explain the ODA’s requirements for providers for plant hire and builders merchant facilities on the Olympic Park. The ODA emphasised that Health and Safety and Competency Training must be a priority with all companies who went forward to bid, and that bulk deliveries by rail or water were preferable options for managing the logistics.
ODA Director of Construction Howard Shiplee said yesterday: 'I am delighted with the huge turnout for this particular contract. Our series of Industry Days have got an excellent track record for procuring the best business solution.
'One company sat here today will win the contract. That company will go on to become part of the prestigious London 2012 construction team, and become part of London’s landscape. I look forward to reviewing all the bids and awarding this contract.'
