The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games today announced that EDF is to be a Tier One sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
EDF is also unveiled as a sustainability partner for London 2012.
EDF will play a key role as a sustainability partner of London 2012 by helping to ensure London 2012 is a truly sustainable Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, as well as a platform for uniting people and business in addressing climate change issues.
EDF has long been a supporter of the Olympic movement through its ongoing partnership with the French Olympic Committee. It is also a patron of the International Paralympic Committee.
EDF's support of London 2012 is in line with its Group values which are close to those of Olympism including solidarity, team spirit, performance and surpassing oneself.
The partnership is effective immediately, giving EDF exclusive category marketing rights in the utility services sector for London 2012, including use of the new London 2012 logo. It also allows exclusive access and category marketing rights to Team GB and Paralympic GB for Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010.
Pierre Gadonneix, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EDF, said: "I am delighted that EDF will be an Official Partner of London 2012. As Europe's lowest carbon-emitting energy company, we're also particularly pleased to be unveiled as a sustainability partner of London 2012.
"With these Olympic and Paralympic Games, we want to deliver the vision of inspiring future generations and leaving a lasting legacy, in sport and in society. This deal is a valuable investment in the international development of our brands in our key markets. It will help inspire our customers and our employees across the EDF group."
Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee said: "We are delighted to unveil EDF as a Tier One sponsor and sustainability partner. This is very important to us: sustainability is at the heart of London 2012 and we're looking forward to working with EDF to make London 2012 truly sustainable Games, delivering a lasting legacy benefiting sport, the environment and the local and global community.
"EDF Energy, its UK subsidiary, was the first company to sign up in 2004 as a premier partner for the 2012 bid, so we are pleased today to welcome the whole group into the London Olympic family."
In the United Kingdom, EDF Energy will be using the inspiration of the 2012 Olympic Games to encourage people to improve their carbon footprints through its Green Lane campaign. The first step is EDF Energy's 2012 Carbon Challenge, a consumer pledge to reduce their home energy carbon footprint by 15% by 2012.
