An Olympic Park Regeneration Steering Group is being set up to ensure local people are more involved in the planning and development of new neighbourhoods, commercial development and services in and around the Olympic Park after the London 2012 Games and Paralympic Games.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) planning applications submitted in February proposed plans for permanent 2012 venues and the Olympic Park during Games time and their legacy transformation after the Games. There will be separate legacy planning applications submitted from next year for the development of the land made available when temporary 2012 venues, temporary infrastructure and other facilities are removed after the Games.
The Olympic Board is establishing an Olympic Park Regeneration Steering Group, which will include leaders of the London Boroughs around the Olympic Park, to oversee the preparation and consultation around legacy planning applications. The Steering Group will be supported by a senior officers group also including the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation.
The full membership and terms of reference of the group will be announced shortly.
Announcing the Steering Group at the State of London Debate today ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said:
“London 2012 will be a fantastic summer of sport and is the catalyst for the regeneration of a deprived part of East London. We want to ensure that the Boroughs are partners in this process of change so that we can realise as many benefits as possible for local people.”
Notes to Editors
The Olympic Park Regeneration Steering Group will prepare and consult on the Legacy Masterplan Framework which will be the basis of further planning applications submitted by the LDA for the development of new communities, commercial development and public facilities around the Olympic Park and its world-class sporting venues.
