The first opportunities to deliver the structures, bridges, highways and associated infrastructure for the Olympic Park, in Games time and in legacy, were unveiled to the construction industry today by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
The structures, roads and bridges project will play a major role in creating a compact and integrated Olympic Park and leaving an open and accessible Park in legacy.
An Industry Day to outline the project was held last month and was attended by over 200 business people, including representatives from some of the UK and Europe's major building contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers. The scope of the project includes:
- 13 footbridges, 5 landbridges, 14 road bridges, 5 underpasses
- 20km of loop, primary and secondary roads in and around the Olympic Park
- Retaining walls, security fencing and other ancillary structures
- Road signage and marking, and road, bridge and underpass lighting
- Surface water drainage systems
Following the Industry Day, the ODA today issued an OJEU contract notice for the first four packages of work:
- Lot 1 - Olympic Park North Area Roads and Bridges which includes 12km of loop roads, primary and secondary roads; 2 land bridges; 1 road bridge; 2 underpasses; retaining walls and other ancillary works
- Lot 2 - Olympic Park South Area Roads and Bridges which includes approximately 8.6km of loop roads, primary and secondary roads; 4 road bridges; 1 footbridge; 1 permanent and 1 temporary underpass; retaining walls and other ancillary works
- Lot 3 - Rail Over-Bridges which includes 3 land bridges; 2 road bridges; 1 temporary road bridge; 2 footbridges; retaining walls and other ancillary works
- Lot 4 - Main Stadium Area Bridges which includes 1 road bridge; 4 footbridges; retaining walls and other ancillary works
ODA Director of Infrastructure Simon Wright said:
"The structures, roads and bridges will be key to joining the various parts of the Olympic Park jigsaw together. These first contracts are an opportunity for construction companies of all sizes to play a vital role in helping create the best-connected Games ever and provide an open and accessible Park in legacy."
The project has been divided into a number of contract packages to maximise market interest and present opportunities to a range of companies.
Companies can tender for the contracts posted today on the ODA's eTendering website
https://etenders.london2012.com. The appointment of contractors for the first packages of work is expected in early 2008. Contract notices for further packages of work within the structures, roads and bridges project will appear in September 2007 and at the end of 2008.
