Statement on brand launch video

London 2012 regrets any distress that may have been suffered by persons viewing broadcasts of the animation sequence contained in the brand launch video produced by its event company.

London 2012 was not aware before the video was issued that a five-second sequence in the video contravened broadcast industry standards in relation to photosensitive epilepsy. London 2012’s supplier, Live, assumed responsibility for all aspects of the production of the video and for ensuring that appropriate precautions were taken.

Before the video was screened at the brand launch event, London 2012 highlighted the existence of flashing images with appropriate and prominent warnings. Similar warnings were also displayed on the London 2012 website. London 2012 provided these warnings to highlight unusual effects in accordance with good industry practice, not because London 2012 thought that any part of the video could actually trigger photosensitive epileptic fits.

Immediately upon becoming aware of the problem London 2012 voluntarily withdrew the video from the London 2012 website.

London 2012 has initiated a complete review of the production process with its supplier in order to identify how the problem arose. London 2012 is also working with appropriate epilepsy organisations and taking advice on industry-standard technology to ensure that any future use of the video or similar material meets all requirements.
