On 14 November the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Planning Committee met at the East London Centre to hear three planning applications, the first applications put forward for consideration since the Committee was granted its powers in September 2006.
The Planning Committee granted approval for Transport for London’s application at Stratford Station to install a new mezzanine gateline extension (above the Jubilee line/existing North London Line platforms) and to build a new westbound platform for the Central Line – both are key parts of the upgrade works required to improve capacity at the station in the run up to 2012.
Works at Stratford Station will commence early in 2007 and will be completed by the end of 2010.
The Planning Committee also granted approval for two joint applications from the London Development Agency (LDA)/ODA to start early site remediation of parts of the Olympic Park. These applications will require the closure of Quatermile Lane and parts of Carpenters Road and Marshgate Lane.
Demolition and remediation will commence in December and continue through mid-2008. The closure of Quarter Mile Lane is forecast to occur in early 2007 while the parts of Carpenters Road and Marshgate Lane covered by these applications are expected to close beginning in July 2007.
ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said, "This means we have achieved planning approval for this land remediation a month ahead of programme. We are on track and continuing to hit our milestones. I am confident we will deliver an exceptional Games and a lasting regeneration legacy for East London."
