London 2012 - HRH The Duchess of Cornwall visits Greenwich

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron of the British Equestrian Federation, visited Greenwich Park today, and was shown around the Park which will be the venue for Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and for Equestrian in the Paralympic Games.

She was given a tour of the park and saw the parts that can be used for the Cross-country course as well as the proposed location for the Dressage and Show Jumping area.

"We chose Greenwich Park as an Olympic and Paralympic venue because it is an iconic venue, visually stunning, and will bring equestrian sport to the city," said Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee.

"Greenwich Park impressed the International Olympic Committee when they visited us in 2005, and helped give us the 'wow' factor. I have no doubt that this will be a fantastic venue in 2012 and will be a huge boost to equestrian sport."

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall also met owners of Team GB championship horses during her visit and presented a British Olympic Association Award to Zara Phillips as the Equestrian Olympic Athlete of the Year for 2006.
