Be part of 2012 - Roadshow in the East Midlands

11 July 2006

The 2012 Roadshow travelling the country from 6 to 27 July to spread the inspirational message of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, has now notched up 370 miles after touring the East Midlands on 11 July.

The "Be Part of 2012 Roadshow" bus, unveiled in Trafalgar Square on 6 July, stopped at Saffron Lane Sports Centre in Leicester, Loughborough University, Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and Pride Park in Derby.

After three days of travelling the 2012 Roadshow bus has now made 17 of its scheduled 65 stops in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Olympic gold medallist and board member of the London organising committee Jonathan Edwards was one of the big names visiting the East Midlands. He said:

"We have been out there telling people across the East Midlands how they can benefit from 2012 in so many different ways - whether as companies winning contracts, towns or cities hosting pre-Games events or individuals volunteering, watching - or even competing.

"It's great to see a region that is committed to sport in so many ways, from innovative school programmes to hosting major events.

"We found real enthusiasm for 2012 during our day in the East Midlands and we are committed to seeing real benefits for every part of the UK from the London Games."

Everywhere it goes the 2012 Roadshow brings senior figures from London 2012, the Government and sport to talk about progress made in the last year, future plans and to explain how everybody can be part of 2012.
