Businesses across the UK have everything to play for

The vast majority of Olympic contracts have yet to be tendered, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Chair Jack Lemley today reassured companies across Britain.

Speaking at the London 2012 Games: Economic benefits for the West Midlands Business Summit, Mr Lemley said:

"The 2012 Games offers a great opportunity for businesses in this country, not just in construction and infrastructure, but also across many other disciplines.

"My message today is that you haven't missed the boat, but that you need to make sure your company is fully prepared to take advantage of opportunities in the years to come."

Mr Lemley encouraged companies to utilise the support services offered by their local Regional Development Agency (RDA) and to familiarise themselves with public procurement processes and the various stages involved in the tendering process - from expressing interest in contracts to submitting tender proposals.

The only contract awarded by the ODA so far has gone to the EDAW consortium alongside Arup and Atkins, who are responsible for the masterplanning of the Olympic Park site.

The London Development Agency (LDA) has also awarded a contract to J Murphy and Sons, who are working on the project to underground 12 km of power lines across the Park.

Another key contract set to be awarded in 2006 will be the Delivery Partner, which will help the ODA manage the delivery programme. A shortlist is due to be drawn up this month and the winning company/consortia will be announced later in the year.

Companies who are considering taking advantage of future contracting opportunities from the ODA should look to demonstrate equality of opportunity for their workforce, union recognition, a commitment to environmental sustainability and accredited health and safety training.

All ODA contracts will be advertised on the London 2012 website www.london2012.com/business
and also in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) http://ted.publications.eu.int/official/
