The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visit the Park

Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited the Olympic Park today as it opened its gates to thousands of spectators for Day 1 of the Olympic Games.

As well as meeting competitors in the Olympic Village, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Aquatics Centre, where they were accompanied by LOCOG Chair Seb Coe and ODA Chairman John Armitt on a brief tour, and met with Games Makers.

This is the second day in a row that The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been present on the Olympic Park, after they attended the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony last night.

The Ceremony saw The Queen make her first film appearance, starring alongside Daniel Craig as James Bond in pre-recorded footage. In the film, The Queen greets 007 with the words 'Good evening Mr Bond' before the pair travel from Buckingham Palace to the Olympic Park by helicopter and then 'skydive' into the Olympic Stadium. While they appeared to parachute to the ground, at the last moment – and in real-time – The Queen appeared in the arena to take her seat to cheers and applause.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman today said the Queen was 'delighted to be asked to be involved in something so exceptional.'
