Svoboda sets early pace

Czech David Svoboda led the way after the fencing bouts as the Olympic men's Modern Pentathlon campaign got under way at the Copper Box this morning.

David Svoboda of Czech Republic celebrates equalling the Olympic record in the fencing event in the men's Modern Pentathlon on Day 15.

Svoboda started off with 26 wins and 1024 points, equalling the Olympic record.

World champion and competition favourite Aleksander Lesun of Russia and China's Cao Zhongrong were one win behind in joint second.

After completing the fencing, the athletes headed over to the Aquatics Centre for the second event of the Pentathlon, the 200m freestyle swim.
