Italian world champion Paolo Pizzo made progress into the last 16 of the men's Epee at the ExCeL, but only just as he saw off the battling challenge of Hong Kong's Leung Ka Ming.

Paolo Pizzo of Italy competes against Leung Ka Ming of Hong Kong, in the men's Individual Epee round of 32 match on Day 5 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at ExCeL.

The world number three trailed 14-12 to Leung, ranked 278 places below him, but scored the last three hits to progress.

Elsewhere in the early stages, with his Prime Minister Andrus Ansip in the audience Estonia's world number one Nikolai Novosjolov did not make it into the quarter-finals, going down 15-11 to the USA's 20th-ranked Seth Kelsey.
